Home Workspace Design Tips (For Kids)

家居工作間設計小貼士 (小童篇) - Freemax - The Body Solution

Do you "share" your home computer with your children?
Have you observed their sitting posture and concentration?
Research reports show that many children suffer from moderate to severe neck and back discomfort. Although we still don’t know the effects of long-term screen time on children’s eyes, general advice is that maintaining a fixed focus (like looking at a screen) can cause eyes to tire faster.

One simple solution is for kids to allocate more time for physical activity (even adults should do this). Try to create a schedule where you can take a break after every 20-30 minutes of computer use, during which you can choose some activities, such as riding a bicycle or playing some ball games.

Additionally, “maintaining posture” while working at a computer requires proper support. Children are not just “little adults”. They do not have the same muscle and bone proportions and shapes as adults. Their body structure changes as they grow, so long-term loads from poor posture can affect bone development. If you allow your child to use a computer for more than half an hour on a high chair, on the floor, in bed, or other low-supported area, they are likely developing poor posture and stress, which will make them more susceptible to strain or injury in the future.

Here are some computer usage restrictions for friends and adults:
– The screen should be directly in front of the body to avoid unnecessary rotation of the neck and upper body;

– Feet should be on the ground and knees should be level or slightly below hips;

– The seat should fit the child properly and provide back support;

– The backrest should fit closely to the child’s curves;

– The size of the mouse should be suitable for the child’s palm, or you can prepare a children’s mouse for the child to use;

– The mouse and keyboard should be placed so that the child’s arms can work in a relaxed position;

– The screen should be at a comfortable height for the child to avoid bending or stretching the neck;

– The document should be placed diagonally between the screen and the keyboard. In addition to providing your child with a supportive workplace during their growth period, educate them on how to protect their spine while they are still able to listen to you!
